Housing starts falter in wake of building scandal

TOKYO -- New residential construction starts dropped for the first time in eight months in October owing to a sharp decline in condominium building that may itself stem from revelations of sloppy foundation work.
     Total starts fell 2.5% on the year to 77,153 units, down more than 10% from a near-term high in June, Japan's land ministry reported Monday.

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Philippine high street is undergoing a face-lift, as retail giants look to capitalize on Southeast Asia’s most profligate consumer-spending sector.

The country’s biggest developers including Ayala Corp.JG Summit Holdings Inc. andSM Investments Corp. are spending billions on malls to ramp up their nationwide presence, while global brands such as Swedish retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB, which once ignored the Philippines, are suddenly arriving here in force.

Dhaka to host power, real estate exhibitions

Dhaka is set to host three-day exhibitions on power, solar, real estate and construction from December 3 at the International Convention City in Bashundhara.
The exhibitions – “15th Power Bangladesh,” “10th Solar Bangladesh,” “18th Con-Expo,” and “16th Real Expo” – will be organised by US-based CEMS Global and CEMS Bangladesh.
